SUMMARY:Central Pennsylvania Region Sports Car Club of America - Solo
 Event 2
DESCRIPTION:\nThe SCCA holds events both locally and nationally which
are called \"Solo\" events. These events generally fall under the catc
hall name \"AutoCross\". Basically, an autocross is a relatively low-s
peed competition driving event in which one driver at a time negotiate
s a twisty course. Maximum speeds on course are approximately 60 MPH i
n production-based vehicles. The course is defined using traffic cones
to make gates which define slaloms and sweeping turns. Scoring is usu
ally based upon raw times within classes of similarly equipped vehicle
 s. Runs are timed to the thousandth of a second using sensors at the s
tart and finish. Autocross is often best described as a competition of
precision driving. \nWhile speeds are generally no greater than those
encountered in highway driving, the combination of concentration and
precision maneuvering leaves many drivers with their heart racing and
hands trembling from adrenaline after a run.\nAlthough there are many
ways to go autocross and the effort can be as easy or as intense as yo
u want, the basics of going autocrossing are simple.\n\n\nWhat you nee
d\nDriver's License: Unless you're entering one of the Karting classes
, you will need a current driver's license to enter an SCCA Solo event
. Bring it with you to show the people working registration you're goo
d to go.\n\nHelpful tip -- If you are under 18, you will need both you
r parents to sign a minor waiver for you.\n\nVehicle in good working o
rder: Although autocrossing doesn't require the same safety gear that
you might see in race cars, you will need to make sure that your car (
or kart) is in good shape with no loose/worn suspension parts, your ca
r battery is securely held in place, your tires have no cord or metal
showing, your car's brakes and seatbelts are in good shape and it has
no big fluid leaks.\nHelpful tip -- When you get to an event, the tech
inspector will make sure your car is ready to go.\n\nHelmet: You will
need a helmet when you're driving on course, but you can usually use
a \"loaner\" helmet provided by the host Region of the event. If you b
ring your own, it has to meet certain safety standards -- more than ju
st \"DOT-Approved.\" The most common certifications are Snell \"M\" an
d \"SA\" and need to have the number 2005 or higher after the letters.
ECE R22.05 certified helmets are also allowed and are common at motor
cycle shops.\n\nSolo Event Information\n• Schedule for 8:00 AM start
