The first International Harvester Scout rolls off the assembly line from a plant purchased from U.S.Rubber Co. in Fort Wayne, IN. Meant as a competeter to the Jeep, the Scout was introduced to the public on January 18, 1961. Base price for a 2wd was $1598 and the 4wd at $1948. By November 1961 HI sold over 25,000 Scouts becoming their biggest seller.
