The very much delayed, and thanks to the tireless efforts of Steve Reed in finding us a destination point for a rescheduled NJ Trans Am/All Pontiac Run for 2013, the event finally took place on October 19, 2013. Our Event helper, Steve, also very thoughtfully donated some Hagerty Goodie Bags, to which we added a sample copy of the National Firebird and Trans Am Club’s Club magazine, and an application for membership in the NFTAC.
Unfortunately, one thing neither Steve nor I (Ben Deutschman) could control was the weather, and though unlike the July date, when it poured, on the 19th of October, it was mostly cloudy, with only a possibility of light rain, late in the day. Of course, understandably, even the hint of foul weather kept many participants from joining us, and so we had only eight Pontiacs in our caravan this year. What the Run may have lacked in numbers, it made up for in enthusiasm and fun, with all involved, from the youngest, to the oldest, having a good time.
Once at our destination we put together a balloting system, thanks to my Son Martin, and each participant had the opportunity to pick their favorite Pontiac overall and also their favorite Firebird.
After everyone was done eating, our next item on the agenda was to award the two trophies to the “Best Pontiac”, and Best Firebird”, determined by the earlier balloting. After the Trophies were awarded, the tickets were put back into a Coffee Can, and the kids were given the opportunity to randomly pick tickets, which were then used to award the giveaway items donated by Ames Performance Engineering, the National Firebird Trans Am Club, and Hagerty Classic Insurance. Of the many nice prizes given away, one lucky winner received a free, one year membership in the National Firebird Trans Am Club, donated of course by the Club.
With a light rain beginning to fall, the festivities ended around 6:30 P.M., and we all beat a hasty retreat towards home. Hopefully the weather will be nicer in 2014, and when the event takes place on July 12, 2014, we’ll have a better participant turnout.
