1975 AC Invacar As the years passed, especially those of the Suez oil crisis, what AC had originally intended as low-cost, fuel-efficient, post-war transportation only grew more relevant. The company that had started out producing three-wheelers in 1911 had returned to the model by the 1950s. Soon, production of what was dubbed the Invacar was being supported by the British government, which supplied the vehicles, free of charge, to mobility-challenged citizens. These were designed to be used as low-speed transportation for limited local distances, such as shopping, visiting friends, and attending church. Most were eventually returned to the government and junked, so survivors are quite rare.
