1948 Rover P3

The Rover P3 was only slightly different than its predecessor, the P2.  Since the P3 came out just after World War II, car demand was strong.  Although Rover wanted to bring out a much improved P4, the P3 was needed to satisfy car demands while the P4 was being developed.  The P3 was the first Rover with independent front suspension, but the brakes remained a hydraulic mechanical hybrid system.  The P3 was never intended to be made in large production numbers – post war production problems and material shortages made that wish come true.  The P3 was replaced by the all-new P4 in 1949.  The engine and gearbox in the P3 were also used in the first Land Rover series.
