1927 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A S Dual Cowl Phaeton by LeBaron

The story of Isotta Fraschini began in 1899 when Cesare Isotta and Oreste Fraschini began producing cars in Milan, Italy. I-F had a reputation of building not only fine cars, but also military machines, marine, and aircraft engines. The company introduced four-wheel breaks in 1909 and built the Tipo 8 series of cars from 1919 – 1935, the worlds first quantity production straight-eight engine. Customers included Clara Bow, Jack Dempsey, William Randolph Hearst, the Pope, Mussolini, and King Faisal. The chassis alone cost $9,750 with coach built models easily approaching $25,000.

Powered by a 7.4 liter/130hp straight-eight, this dual-cowled phaeton wears coachwork by LeBaron of Detroit. Like most luxury manufacturers, Isotta Fraschini fell victim to the American Depression and the worldwide collaps of the luxury car market. After car production ceased, the company concentrated on the manufacture of aircraft engines.
