1913 Ford Model T “C” Cab Delivery Van
Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company, Detroit, MI
Model: Model “T” “C” Cab Delivery Van
Engine: 176.7 cid. L-Head Four-cylinder; 22 hp @ 1600 rpm
Production: 1845 (1912); 513 (1913)
Production of the Ford Model “T” began in August of 1908 with the first cars leaving the factory in September of that year— with all referred to as 1909 models. In the early years of the Model “T” production, most were built as open bodied touring cars and runabouts. However, Henry Ford recognized the importance of also building commercial vehicles and in 1912 produced a delivery van. These delivery vans, which were built for two years (1912-1913), are commonly referred to as “C” cabs due to the cut away style of the van body. (It is noteworthy, however, that this was not the first delivery van build by Ford. In 1905 a Ford Delivery Van was built using a Ford Model “C” car as the base to which a van body was added.)
The national award winning “C” Cab displayed here was fully restored in the 1970s and is painted in the livery of “Susat’s Furniture”— the business owned by Mr. Susat. The vehicle has not been “refreshed”: — its outstanding appearance due to both the initial quality of the restoration and the care that it has been provided over the past almost 40 years.
