This was seen at the Seal Cove Auto Museum in Maine.

I was told “Pierce Great Arrows won the 1905 Glidden Tour with a perfect score, the first of five consecutive victories in this early reliability contest.
Pierces employed a steering column mounted gearshift lever until 1908.”
