Sin City Tucker ’48 Replica
1948 Tucker Replica is on view at the AACA Museum from October 23, 2016 – Mid-April, 2017
There’s no question that some of our most favorite vehicles for guests to enjoy are those that have some celebrity connection.
We have several vehicles in our collection that have a connection with the limelight and this one will be vacationing here for the winter for all to enjoy.
This hand made replica 1948 tucker was built to be used on the set of Frank Miller’s Sin City 2 by Robert Rodriguez. In the movie, it was driven by Mickey Rourke and Eva Greene through some pretty exciting chase scenes. The car remained on set while the stunts were done by computer imaging.
After the movie wrapped, the car came back to its creator Rob Ida Concepts in Morganville, NJ. At this time, the shop took on another meaningful project with a strong Tucker 48 connection.
The Gyronaut X1 was “The World’s Fastest Motorcycle” from 1963-1970 when it was crashed at a speed nearly 300 MPH. The Gyronaut X1 was a twin Triumph powered two wheeled motorcycle with a streamilner body designed by none other than Alex Tremulis, the man most credited for his design work on the Tucker 48 car. His combination of engineering and design resulted in an aerodynamic body that made a low horse powered vehicle very fast due to low drag. His partner Bob Leppan is credited for his amazing riding skills and engine work. He was the owner of Triumph Detroit and is still active in motorcycle racing today.
The crew at Ida Automotive finished the motorcycle for its 50th anniversary at Bonneville Salt Flats in 2013 and repurposed the “Sin City’ Tucker as a faux weathered and rusty Tow vehicle for the Gyronaut X1.

Special Note: The replica 1948 Tucker will be on view here at the AACA Museum but not the Gyronaut X1
